Pork Week in Stratford

June 21 - 27, 2009 Stratford

Although the Ontario Pork Congress is celebrating its 36th anniversary AND enjoying a ‘New Home-Coming’ with new facilities, Pork Week in Stratford acknowledges the importance the Congress holds for the community.

During the week of June 21st to the 27th, the City of Stratford will fly the flag of the Ontario Pork Congress high above City Hall, in recognizing its role in Stratford and surrounding area. As well, select restaurants will offer pork specials and other features on their menus.

And remember, the new home of the Ontario Pork Congress is the Rotary Complex, located at 353 McCarthy Road, just off County Road 119 near the northern entrance to Stratford.

Gold Event

What began as an evening workshop of trends and research findings is now one of the focal points of the Ontario Pork Congress. The Gold Event is the eagerly-anticipated ‘Night before Congress’, with a timely forum of information for herdspeople and managers. It is dedicated to improving a farm’s bottom line, offering timely tips on health, heating and cooling, animal behaviour and emerging technologies.

The evening’s proceedings are made possible through the generous contributions of Pork Congress Gold Sponsors, and are therefore by invitation only.

Hog Jog - Pork for a cause

Community puts best feet forward

No matter the challenges of modern farming, the agri-food industry, particularly in Stratford, always steps up to show its support. Thanks to the Ontario Pork Industry Council (OPIC) and its Hog Jog: "Pork For A Cause" event, runners and walkers from Stratford, Waterloo, London and points in between can show their support for a worthy cause. Participants raise funds for a different cause each year.

All pledges from the 2009 Hog Jog will be going to the Lung Association, Huron-Perth to be used specifically for projects around asthma awareness. The contributions to the Lung Association, Huron-Perth will be made in honour of Gilbert Vanden Heuvel, a successful pork producer from Huron County who has had asthma all his life. Gilbert is also active in industry associations, his church and community while living a healthy, athletic life fully with his asthma under control.
